WRITING A SPECULATIVE APPLICATION
Sending cold emails or messages is tough!! Ideally you should try to warm up the approach by leaning on your network. If this is not possible, you should consider these points
Be personable
Be funny
- Humour is a great tool to establish a connection and building trust
- People are more likely to read ALL the message
Connect – join the dots (who connects you, where did you meet)
Flatter
- Honey attracts more bees
- Tell the reader a few nice things e.g., their posts on LinkedIn are great
Be Direct | Be Succinct
- You will lose the reader with a wordy message
- Write like you would talk, not as a solicitor would write
- Highlight your biggest (relevant) achievement, not a huge list
Be creative
Be thankful
- “Please” and Thank You” go a long way
- Afterall, someone has taken time out of their busy day to read your message
